Description
Evolution of an icon... from 356 to 21st century 911. Introduced in 1948 the 356 is a lightweight and nimble-handling, rear-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car that was the first car to carry the Porsche name. It 1963 the 901 (later renamed 911) was released it was designed as a larger, more practical version of the 356 with an extra pair of seats.
Each new iteration of 911 was internally codenamed with a letter of the alphabet, but it wasn’t until reaching G that there was a discernible difference in styling and tech, and the dawn of a new generation. The G-Series ran for a long time, too, debuting in 1973 and only being replaced in 1989. The 991 arrived in 2011 and was considered the prettiest 911 in decades.
